Date & Time: Friday, July 24 @ 10:00 AM – 2:00PM

Join us at New Jubilee to beat back the invasive burdock! Burdock is a highly invasive plant that has a tendency to spread in large patches that choke out native plants, so in order for this land to thrive we need to remove as much as possible.

New Jubilee is a conservation easement that contains one of the largest remaining tracts of old-growth forest within the city of Edmonton. This forest provides a significant source of refuge for local wildlife. This land also supports local agriculture through Lady Flower Gardens and Fern's Flower Gardens.

Accessibility:

  • Moderate difficulty requiring bending, cutting with hand tools, pulling, hiking and carrying garbage bags filled with burdock.
  • Approximately 2 km of walking on variable terrain, though the area is flat for the most part. We will be weeding in the forest area

What to Expect:

  • We will start the day promptly at 10:00 AM with a safety and training meeting to go over our tasks and the associated hazards and safety controls. We will break for lunch around 12:00pm and head out by 2:00 PM.
  • Pulling and cutting invasive burdock. Digging them out by the root if possible
  • Hiking and carrying bags of burdock for disposal
  • Plan to carry your personal supplies for the day (water, layers, snacks, etc.) in your backpack.
  • There is an outhouse on this land.
  • There is a dog on the property that may greet us when we arrive, he is friendly!
