Date & Time: 

The medicine garden at our new conservation site by the North Saskatchewan River has been coming along over the span of this season! After multiple planting events, weeding events, and other prep work, we're ready to put more mulch down to further discourage the alfalfa from popping up. 

We will both spread some mulch and weed around the garden area, as there is some white cockle that has moved in that we'd like to keep a limit on. 

This event is open to all volunteers.

Accessibility: 

• Walking distance won't be far, we will be close to the parking lot for most of the day.
• Spreading mulch will involve shovelling mulch into a wheelbarrow and spreading it in the garden.
• Weeding will involve bending and pulling plants.
• The garden is in full sun, but shade is nearby. 
• There will be a porta-potty available for this event.

What to Expect:

• We will start the day promptly at 9:30 am with a safety and training meeting to go over our tasks and the associated hazards and safety controls. We will break for lunch around 12:00 pm and be finished by 2:00 pm.  
• Plan to carry your personal supplies for the day (water, layers, snacks, etc.) in your backpack.

What to Wear and Bring:

• Comfortable clothing and outerwear for working outdoors all day, including long pants and layers appropriate for the weather. 
• Hiking shoes or sturdy running shoes – no slip-on shoes please!

• Lunch and water

• All tools and supplies will be provided but you may bring your own work gloves if you wish. 

• Optional:

• Cushion or lawn chair to sit on at lunch
• Binoculars
• Camera

• We have a parking lot that will be open on the day of the event. Our "Event Here" sign will mark it.

Cancellations:

• If you need to cancel, please do so through the Volunteer Portal as soon as possible. 
• If you have any questions or need to cancel on the day of the event, you can reach Gary at 780-404-4277. Please note that we will NOT have access to email on the day of the event. 

Additional Information:

• Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.

• Please contact us in advance if you wish to bring a minor to this event.
