Hello and welcome!
Thank you for your interest in helping The Museum of Discovery achieve its mission to ignite and fuel a passion for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through dynamic, interactive experiences. The museum experience cannot happen without the support of our incredibly generous volunteers. If you’re still as curious as the children who love our museum, help engage tomorrow’s teachers, scientists and engineers as a museum volunteer. Discover what it’s like to encourage a child to , measure the amount of blood in his body, make electricity … or experience a tornado, experiment with “Whoosh” and observe all kinds of animals. Can you imagine the fun and the learning – and the good feeling you’ll get from helping our non-profit successfully execute our mission? We sure hope you'll join us in finding out!
These are the museum’s entry level volunteers. Guest Experience Volunteers will serve in all of the museum galleries, including: Amazing You, Tinkering Studio, Room to Grow and Discovery Court. Volunteers will welcome guests and provide them with information and facts about our STEAM exhibits and engage them with Pocket Flair demonstrations and other STEAM activities. They will engage guests and be readily available to provide assistance and answer questions.
We have a wide array of volunteer opportunities available throughout the week and at different parts of the day! Please let us know what times of the week you are available, and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you! Based on your availability and interests, we will formulate a volunteer plan and schedule that is tailored to fit your needs as well as the Museums! For our recurring volunteers, we do ask that you:
Museum hours are 9 am - 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday (We are open on Mondays when school isn't in session) and 1-5 pm on Sundays.
Our most pressing need is weekday volunteers that would like to help in various parts of the Museum.
Does your day job hinder your ability to volunteer at the Museum? No problem at all! We offer Science After Dark - a fun, interactive, and once monthly event from 5:30 - 9 pm, which alongside staff and educators, provides visitors the opportunity to have fun and learn about science in a unique setting. Museum educators pick a science-related topic and build an entertaining, interactive evening around it. Around that topic, the Museum asks volunteers and staff alike to help usher demonstrations and learning opportunities to the guests that come through the door!
Science After Dark is an exciting way for people of every age (21+, of course!), to come and participate in all of the same ways they did when they were children!
The Museum of Discovery has a variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities for corporate groups and skills-based opportunities for individuals. Volunteering is a great team building exercise that gives your employees a fun way to meet people, gain leadership skills, and contribute a valuable service to the community.
We will help you tailor a volunteer experience that fits your employees' skills and schedules. To learn more, please also contact the Volunteer Coordinator at btoney@museumofdiscovery.org.
Special Event Volunteers serve as host for one or more of the variety of special programs offered by the Museum of Discovery. As a Special Event Volunteer, you will greet and direct guests, assist inside the exhibits, and engage guests in educational activities and unique experiences. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with excellent communication skills.
Special Events include but are not limited to: Tinkerfest, the SPARK Gala, STEAM Nights, and more as we schedule them in the future!
Our Adult Volunteering Program is for those that are interested in not only becoming a member of the Museum of Discovery team, but also want to get involved in the creative and every day operations of the Museum itself!
Because there are a limited number of participants for this role, we ask that you devote a part of your weekly schedule to being at the Museum.
Duration per shift: 2 hours
To be a part of the Adult Volunteer Corp, we ask that you:
