Special Events - Event Support - Recreational activities for kids with emotional disabilities

 

NOTE: This volunteer role may require an application and background screening for individuals who are not part of a group. Please contact Volunteer Services about the process if you are interested in signing up: volunteercfs@cc-md.org.

Help with parties, cookouts, picnics, and other special events for our clients and their families. Tasks vary but may include:

  • Set-up / clean-up • Decorating • Facilitating a game • Serving food • Leading a craft activity

How to Sign-up

If you're not one of our screened and trained volunteers, begin by filling in an application from this page ("I would like to Volunteer").

  • Groups: Only the group leader needs to complete the application. All volunteers must be 16+ years of age to work directly with children.
  • Individuals who want to volunteer for special events and/or volunteer on an ongoing basis should contact Maria Busko, volunteercfs@cc-md.org to begin the application and screening process.

Black History Month Performance. Cheer on the children as they recite, sing, and dance in honor of the indelible contributions of blacks in American history.

Career Day. Interest elementary and middle school students in your career! Wear your uniform, demonstrate your craft, or make a display to introduce diverse work to youth.

These activities are old favorites that will likely be repeated next year. Specific dates and shifts TBD. 

 

Weekday, once a month

4-6:30 PM

Movie Night. Volunteers will set up and serve dinner & dessert to the children before the movie and then will help with clean up.

Second Tuesdays

10-11:45 AM

Club Day. Students get to choose a club activity during the school day. Volunteers will team up with Villa Maria School staff to facilitate a club activity such as Sports, Art, Cooking, Video Games, Legos, Jewelry-Making, Chess... 

Various Saturdays

9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Structured Recreation & Sports Group. Team up with the Recreational Therapy Coordinator to bring thematic craft activities or games to the children. The Sports Group Leader facilitates all-level athletic activities.

Saturday closest to holiday

9:15 AM - 12:30 PM

Seasonal Fun. Be it Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Earth Day… volunteers will help facilitate a holiday activities for the children…

Friday, early March

6-8 PM

Talent Show. Join a cheering audience of enthusiastic supporters as each unit of children at St. Vincent's Villa showcase their talents! Singing, dancing, and who knows what else!

Saturday in early March and early October

9:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Skills and Drills. Volunteers facilitate a Spring basketball and Fall soccer activity for the children, practicing basic sport skills.

Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, or Juneteenth

10:30 AM - 2:30 PM

Patriotic Picnics. Set up, grill, serve food, fill water balloons, help with activities like volleyball, and clean up.

Friday, early June

10 AM - 2 PM (two shifts)

Field Day. Team up with the Villa Maria School staff to put on a fun-filled Field Day for the end of school. Work with children in grades K-8 to enjoy many different types of games, then stay for a cookout and a snowball.

Monday thru Thursday, late-June and late August

9:15 AM - 12:45 PM

Summer Camp. Help facilitate indoor and outdoor activities for some summer fun! The children have two short breaks from school in the summer.

Mid-week, late August

10:30 AM - 4:00 PM (two shifts)

Multicultural Day. Introduce the children to various cultures by setting up an interactive display: Have something to taste, to see and touch. Dress in traditional clothing or have music playing. Volunteers needed for set up and lunch service too.

Weekday, mid-August

Morning

School Supply Packing. Put together backpacks so that the children are ready for their first day of school. Seeking detail-oriented volunteers.

Weeknight before Halloween

3:30 - 6:30 PM

Halloween Trunk or Treat. Volunteer groups decorate their trunk in ANY theme, dress in costumes to match the theme, and hand out candy or treats to the children as they trick or treat through the parking lot.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Day

11:15 AM - 2:15 PM

Holiday Meal Service. Help to serve a special meal to the children and visiting family members.

Various Tuesdays

3:30 PM- 5:30 PM

Calvert Hall Play Day. Calvert Hall High School students play with boys units after school.
