Critter Care Wildlife Society specializes in the treatment, care and release of sick, injured and orphaned Native Mammal species of British Columbia’s Southern and Lower Mainland. They are the only facility in BC specializing in the care of mammals and one of only
three bear rehabilitation facilities in the province.
There is an age restriction of 18 years of age minimum.
They are not near any public transit.
Internship Opportunities
They offer year-round unpaid internships to motivated individuals passionate about wildlife rehabilitation. Internships are available in both summer and winter, with summer internships (April/May until July 31 or later) being highly competitive. Preference is given to those able to commit to longer than two months.
What to Expect
- Duration: Minimum 4 to 8-week commitment*
- Schedule: Workdays can range from 8 to 12 hours, depending on the needs of the animals. During busy periods, you may have to work night feeds.
- Duties: Feeding, food preparation, cleaning, laundry, administering treatments, and participating in building and maintenance projects. You’ll be involved in all aspects of the shelter.
- Room & Board: Free accommodation and basic food are provided. If you eat meat, you will need to purchase your own.
- No Smoking: There is absolutely no smoking allowed anywhere on-site.
*Critter Care’s Internship program has different minimum stay requirements depending on the time of year. From October to January, the minimum stay is 4 weeks, while from February to September, the commitment extends to 8 weeks. This flexible structure ensures that interns can contribute meaningfully to the care of wildlife while accommodating different availability. Also note, they are able to accommodate to long term placements i.e. 6 months +
Requirements
- No prior wildlife experience is necessary.
- You must be prepared to give 100% effort in caring for the animals.
- A criminal background check may be required.
