Newborn Hearing Screening Volunteer

Our Newborn Hearing Screening Service screens infants in the first four weeks of life to ensure early detection of mild, moderate, severe and profound permanent childhood hearing impairment. The Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) is a national programme, aiming to pick up any issues early. The majority of babies are screened prior to discharge from hospital after birth, and so our NHSP team work in both the hospital and the community.

It's really important that we collect feedback from parents about our service to find out what we are doing well and ways that we can improve - and we are looking for volunteers to support the NHSP team on our local maternity / neonatal units to do this.

You will be volunteering alongside the NHSP team, talking to parents after their babies have had their hearing screens and completing a survey with them using a tablet.

We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering after recruitment checks have been completed.

If you’re over 18 years of age, are happy within a hospital environment and feel confident in asking for feedback, then we would encourage you to apply!

Training & support is provided throughout your volunteering experience.

This role is based at:

Bedford Hospital
