Volunteering with paws4people

Thank you for visiting our Volunteer Opportunities Page!

Please fill out the application if you would like to become a paws4people®️ Foundation volunteer. Once you have completed the application, please allow 24-72 business hours for it to be accepted. From there, you can begin with your very first public puppy outing once you complete the Puppy Outing Training Video, "What to expect on a Puppy Outing?".

We are constantly adding new volunteer opportunities so please check back regularly.

Your service can make a difference. We look forward to having you as a part of the puppy team!

General Interests

Puppy Development Center Volunteer

This option is volunteering at our Puppy Development Center at our ADDIE's Way Campus in Castle Hayne, NC. Volunteers at our Center have many different responsibilities including all care, training, feeding, exercising, and clean-up of our Puppies ages ~3-20 weeks old. Volunteer Shifts run 6am-10pm every day of the week so there is a ton of flexibility. There is some bending and light lifting involved with volunteering at the Center. If interested in this option, volunteers must go completed training videos prior to shadowing/training on shift. Children ages 12 and above are allowed to volunteer at our Center, but any child under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian both at the Orientation and on all Volunteer shifts at the Center. We do recommend you attend a few puppy outings prior to this option of volunteering at the center.

Puppy Outings

Puppy Outings happen weekly throughout the Wilmington Community. There is no formal training needed to assist with these outings. You simply sign up for an outing that you are interested in/available for through the link below and then meet the outing supervisor on your selected date & time. Once you meet the supervisor outside the venue they will give you instructions on how to properly handle the puppy throughout the outing. Puppy outings last about one hour at each location. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on these outings.

Internship opportunities

Looking for a career development internship? Wanting to expand your experience in the Animal Care or Veterinary field? Are you interested in puppy development or dog training?

Our Goal: Transform Lives

paws4people®️ trains and places Assistance Dogs in assisting users to transform their lives for a better tomorrow. We believe every person is deserving of priceless and well-deserved independence.

Today, many clients with “invisible disabilities” using an Assistance Dog while accessing public venues are questioned more readily than a handler whose disability is visible.

Therefore, we feel it is important for people to recognize and understand that Assistance Dogs, when employed correctly within the confines of the law, are providing invaluable services to their users.
