These Volunteers Create various craft items and/or will assist in creating or assisting with resources for patient comfort and care
Comfort Bear Volunteers have been knitting, filling and stitching Comfort Bears since 2006, for the Accident and Emergency Department, Operating Theatre Suite, Paediatric Department, and the Step-Down Unit for distressed and unsettled children, assisting to make their stay a more positive, fun and less stressful experience.
Comfort Boobie Volunteers knit and create breast like shapes in a range of bra sizes that are used as a prosthetic post breast surgery for women to put into their bra. These are provided free of charge by our MaGrath Breast Care Nurse to women in the FUNLHN region who have undergone mastectomies, partial mastectomies, or other breast surgery.
‘Worry Worms’ Volunteers, initiative of the Community Mental Health team Worry Worms are a small cute, crocheted worm packaged with an affirmation card, that can assist people in dealing with their worries and emotions. They have become a very tangible support item for mental health clients, patients, and visitors to our health service
Craft Volunteers
There are some registered volunteers that volunteer their time off site creating craft products to be sold in the hospital Kiosk to help raise funds for patient comfort and wellbeing.
These dedicated individuals contribute their skills and creativity to craft a variety of items, including handmade cards, knitted accessories, and seasonal decorations. Their efforts not only enhance the hospital environment but also provide a sense of community and warmth to patients and visitors alike. The funds raised through the sale of these crafts are used to purchase items that improve patient care and comfort, such as new bedding, entertainment options, and therapeutic tools.
