Volunteer Opportunities

Meals on Wheels Driver

Meals on WheelsNutrition Program has provided Meals on Wheels to community members in North Clackamas County for the last 40 years. Over 60,000 meals are served each year to homebound older adults and people with disabilities. Nutritious meals are made fresh daily and are delivered by dedicated volunteers – rain or shine – around lunchtime Monday through Friday (except on holidays). Meals on Wheels isn’t just about nutrition; this program is also about connecting with the most vulnerable members of our community.

Kitchen Assistants/ Meal Packers

Daily, a team of volunteers, in multiple positions, assists our staff with preparing, plating, and packaging of meals for delivery, as well as cleaning prep and serving areas and washing dishes. There are morning and afternoon shifts available.

Big Money Bingo ~ Tuesday & Thursday Evenings

Big Money Bingo

The Milwaukie Community Center Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Milwaukie Community Center and helps fund the programs and services provided at the center, including Meals on Wheels. Our Big Money Bingo Nights are a large part of our fundraising efforts. We often need volunteers for all positions. Controller, Assistant Controller, Pay Master, Floor Walker, Snack Bar Attendant, or Beer and Wine Sales. Even one night a month is a huge help.

Dining Room / Pete's Café / Bread Table

Week days we serve lunch in our dining room. Volunteers set and bus tables, and serve both buffet style and sit down meals. Our dining room front desk attendant checks in and takes payment from our patrons while Pete's Café serves beverages and snack as well as soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs for patrons seeking options other than the meal being served that day. The bread table is a favorite, where we make bread and pastries available for purchase.

Clerical / Reception / Administration / Finance and Legal

Volunteers help with reception, data entry, tax preparation (seasonal), as well as financial and legal consulting. The opportunities are extensive and varied.

Boards and Commitees

We have multiple boards and committees that help direct and/or advise our community center and foundation leadership in ways that we may impact our community best. Members of these groups are volunteers from community and usually meet on a monthly basis.

General Maintenance / Janitorial Assistant / Room Setup

Volunteers assist our staff with light maintenance, janitorial and room setups during our open hours. Flexible scheduling available.

Special Events

Annually, the Milwaukie Community Center is hosts and or sponsors multiple special events as fund raisers and community outreach.  These events directly support the programs at the Milwaukie Community Center including the Meals on Wheels program, which has provided meals to community members in North Clackamas County for the last 40 years. Over 60,000 meals are served each year to homebound older adults and people with disabilities.

Entertainment and Entertainment Tech

The Milwaukie Community Center provides entertainment for our lunch patrons and also for special events. Entertainment includes performances by musicians, musical groups, and drama / theater groups. We always looking for performing artists that want to share their passion.

Entertainment Techs help with scheduling and sound setup as well as providing background music when no performances are scheduled.

Firewood splitting, stacking, delivery

We have a firewood program for people with wood heat in need of fuel. Arborists, private land owners, and the park maintenance donate wood, that is split with a hydraulic splitter and stacked for later distribution. Some volunteers offer wood delivery to those without the means to pick up.

Recycling Program

We have a recycling program that supports the Milwaukie Community Center Foundation and Meals on Wheels. Volunteers help sort, bag and deliver to Bottle Drop locations.

Artisan Gifts

The Milwaukie Community Center has venue for local artisans to show and sell their creations on consignment. Volunteers run the operations of this venue and are always in need of others that have passion for local artisans and gift shop operations. The need increases from October through December, because of holiday shopping.

A Place at the Center (APAC)

The volunteer for this activity should be reliable and be able to attend the group 2 or more Wednesdays per month from 10am-2pm. The volunteer should be someone who is caring and would enjoy being part of a group that seeks to enrich the lives of people with dementia.

Some of the tasks would include:

  • Playing along with games and stories
  • Participating in music (no musical talent required)
  • Pass out supplies and help with arts and crafts projects
  • Reassure participants who are a little anxious
  • Generally helping to make the group a fun and enjoyable space

Big Money Bingo- MCC Foundation

Bingo positions for every Tuesday* and Thursday evening.

Our Tuesday and Thursday night bingo sessions at the Milwaukie Community Center are our most consistent  fundraisers for Meals on Wheels and other vital programs we support at the Milwaukie Community Center, so your help would make a significant impact.

We understand that daytime volunteering may not fit into everyone’s schedule, so these evening opportunities are perfect for those who have more availability later in the day. Even if you can only volunteer once a month, your contribution would be incredibly valuable.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with various tasks such as setting up, greeting participants, selling bingo cards, assisting with the snack bar, and selling beer and wine.
