Purpose and Goals:
The Adult GED® Program at St. Vincent & Sarah Fisher Center is a free, personalized tutoring program that focuses on helping Detroit area adults (age 18 or older) to become more self-sufficient and contributing members to the community and economy, through education. Our process works, because not everyone learns at the same pace or has the same comprehension capabilities. We help the students to learn, not just pass the GED®.
What will I do as a Adult GED Tutor?
- Engage with students in GED excersies focused on reading and math
- Engage students in personalized tutoring focused on academic success and self-sufficiency
- Work with students to work through any barriers that may be preventing them from achieving their goals
- Work with students to establish Adult Basic Education and Foundational Skills as needed.
What qualifications do I need?
- Ability to confidently speak to crowds of people and to individual groups
- Basic knowledge of K-12 math and reading skills
- Ability to work one on one with individuals seeking education
