Purpose and Goals:
The Children’s After-School Program at the St. Vincent & Sarah Fisher Center is a community based, individualized after-school education program for children in grades 1-6, designed for year-round reading and math skill building to bridge the educational gap in Detroit. Sessions are Tuesday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The program is for students who are motivated to learn, and for parents who support their learning.
What will I do as a Children's After-School Tutor?
- Engage with students in creative and challenging learning activities
- Help asses student need and areas of focus for individual children
- Work one-on-one with students in order to help with individual needs
- Work with students through social-emotional learning opportunities
What qualifications do I need?
- Ability to confidently speak to crowds of people and to individual groups
- Basic knowledge of K-12 math and reading skills
- Ability to work one on one with individuals seeking education
- A love for working with children
