Age Requirements
All Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older (Youth 16-17 years must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them to their first volunteer shift to sign a waiver)
Children 13-15 years of age may accompany a parent or legal guardian during their volunteer shift. Children will not be assigned tasks, but can assist with the adults assigned tasks. Children are not allowed to wander or be un-supervised at any time. Children, Toddlers and infants under age 13 will not be allowed to accompany a volunteer at any time.
Commitment and Attendance
Volunteers are not required to participate in every activity or event, but if you agree to participate, you are expected to adhere to that commitment. Volunteers may cancel an assigned shift in the online volunteer calendar or app. Advance notification is recommended so that other arrangements may be made
Dog Care includes but is not limited to: Letting dogs into play yards, Hosing out kennels, feeding, filling water buckets, cleaning gutters. It also allows for animal handling such as teaching loose leash walking and basic commands, supervising/engaging in dog play, providing enrichment
Cat Care includes but is not limited to: letting cats out to play, scooping litter boxes, filling food and water bowls, wiping out cages, providing enrichment, taking pictures of cats
Helps with all the general cleaning and overall appearance of the adoption center. This includes but is not limited to Dishes, Laundry, Cleaning Cat Boxes, Sweep/Mop, Wash transport crates. This is the job that always needs the most volunteer help!
Receptionist answers phones and greets customers along with light data entry, pet supply sales and keeping the front office looking tidy
Take care of clean and play with the cats at the Petsmart store in Sandy
Take an animal home until a designated date of return. Fostering is needed for several reasons including but not limited to: Kittens/Puppies who aren't big enough for surgery, Recovery from Surgery, a break from the shelter environment, Lack of space.

We are dedicated to ending the homeless pet epidemic and supporting the community through Adoptions, spay/neuter, Education, and low cost vaccination care. Second Chance for Homeless Pets is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit, no kill facility. We have a wide variety of Dogs and Cats available for adoption at all times.
