Role Title: IT volunteer reading development assistant
Department: Libraries

Responsible to: Team Leader Community / on-site staff
Role Purpose:
While computers are an integral part of life for some people others are still unfamiliar with them or struggle to understand them. If you are comfortable using computers perhaps you could help others get to grips with using them.
Duration
IT skills sessions, 1-2 hours once a week
Main Activities:
- To assist service users in accessing online council services such as My Account and local information.
- Computer support volunteers help library visitors in booking and using a library computer for various reasons - they might wish to find information, upload a photograph, write a document, use an online service/social media or set up an email account
- To assist in promoting library computer work clubs and senior surfer sessions using specific online tutorial courses, to service and non-service users.
- To record monitoring data of activity/event attendance to be submitted in monthly reports.
The above duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the volunteer may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required.

The volunteer will be given the opportunity to improve their communication skills. The volunteer will also be able to interact with a wide range of people. This role will also help to improve their computer skills.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
We will provide training relevant and support for the role, this includes customer service, health and safety and data protection training using the council’s iLearn Training system, courses include;

- Health, Safety, Wellbeing Awareness
- Equalities and Diversity
- Safeguarding Children
- Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
Further training opportunities may be available.
We will also provide a reference after you have been volunteering with us for 3 months.
