Role Purpose:

Please note: This role is applicable for applicants over 16 years of age. As part of the Mayor’s Volunteer Group you will assist the Mayor to raise funds for the Mayor’s nominated charity appeal(s) through series of charity events and fundraisers.

 Main Activities:

  • Attend monthly Volunteer Group meetings which take place in the Mayors Parlour and fall on the first Tuesday of every month from 6.30pm – 8.30pm
  • Provide ad hoc support at Mayoral Charity events and fundraisers as and when required (evenings and weekends) this may include:
  • Quiz support at quiz nights (collecting answer papers etc)
  • Collecting tickets and entrance fees on the door
  • Assisting with raffles and tombola’s
  • Assisting with event set up and decorations
  • Assisting with the distribution of food and drinks (if needed)
  • Cake making for the Mayors annual Town Hall Bake Sale (once a year)
  • Attend and assist with annual charity bucket collections at Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club
  • Assisting with the Mayors Charity tombola stall at the Summer of Festivals events (weekends)
  • Cash Management at fundraising events.
  • Participation and help in Barking and Dagenham’s entry in the London New Year’s Day Parade which takes place in London’s Piccadilly on the 1st January.

The above duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the volunteer may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required.

As part of the Mayors Volunteer Group they will be given the opportunity to support Barking and Dagenham’s first Citizen, the worshipful Mayor.

The volunteer will have the opportunity to represent Barking and Dagenham and participate in the London New Years Day Parade in Piccadilly which is televised and attended by over 650,000 watchers each year! As a parade participant the volunteer will also be invited to a prestigious evening Reception in London and a Presentation evening held in the council Chamber.

The volunteer will be given the opportunity to improve their customer service skills and interact with a wide range of people at a variety of different events.  

We will provide the relevant training and support for the role, courses include:

  • Customer Care
  • Safeguarding Children
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

We will also provide a reference after you have been volunteering with us for 3 months.
