Role Purpose:

To assist Eastbury staff with the delivery of our Tearoom offer by processing customers’ orders, using the till, serving food and drinks and welcoming visitors.

 

 Main Activities: 

  • To engage with visitors to Eastbury and make them feel welcome
  • To take customers’ orders from the menu and pass these to the kitchen
  • To use the till to process sales, and take payments by cash and card
  •  
  • To serve hot and cold drinks, cakes and light lunches
  • To clear and clean tables

 

  • To re-stock supplies from the storeroom as required
  • To put away cleaned crockery and cutlery
  • To process sales for the gift shop 
  • To support staff in processing visitors’ admissions to the house
  •  
  • To volunteer within our opening hours of Thursday or Friday 10am to 4pm, or Sunday 11am to 4pm, at times as you are able to do so
  • To be a good ambassador for Eastbury Manor House, and by extension the National Trust and London Borough of Barking & Dagenham 

The above duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the volunteer may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required.

The volunteer will be given the opportunity to improve their customer service skills, communication skills and teamworking skills. This role will give the volunteer the chance to develop or gain problem solving skills and confidence. The volunteer will also gain experience of working with the public and a wide range of people.

The volunteer will become part of a friendly and dedicated team, meeting like minded people from all walks of life. They will enjoy new experiences and learn new skills. They will also support the sustainability of Eastbury Manor House.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Lunch will be provided if volunteering for 4 hours.

We will provide relevant training and support for the role. This may include customer service, health and safety and data protection training using the council’s online iLearn training system. Courses include:

  • Manual Handling
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2020
  • Customer Care
  • Health, Safety, Wellbeing Awareness
  • Equalities and Diversity

Further training opportunities may be available.

We will also provide a reference after you have been volunteering with us for 3 months.
