Volunteer Event Assistant

POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • To support the cultural services staff to present events and programs in a professional and efficient manner

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to Council policies at all times, including the Code of Conduct and Volunteer Policy
  • Demonstrate the organisation’s vision and values through workplace behaviour, actions and attitudes
  • Attend an initial induction and any other training to meet obligations
  • Assist the Programs Facilitator/s to prepare venue i.e. chair and table placement, , materials, AV equipment
  • Assist with food preparation and service in accordance with all health regulations
  • Assist the Programs Facilitator to clean up venue and return chairs and tables etc.
  • Ensure that all equipment necessary for the event is in good working order
  • Relay any messages or requests before finishing the shift and report any incidents or issues as soon as possible
  • Work cooperatively with other volunteers and staff as required
  • Provide information and support to presenters and guests as required
  • Assist Library, Arts & Museum staff as required and make recommendations for improvements to practices and services to the Programs Facilitator and relevant Team Leaders
  • Adhere to Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures
  • Keep all necessary licenses up-to-date and inform Operations Support Officer of any changes to licenses that will impact the delivery of service

COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULE

  • Flexible days and times availability, including outside of business hours and weekends
  • If unable to attend, advise the staff as early as possible so that a replacement volunteer can be arranged

LICENCES

  • NSW Class C driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • A police check may be requested
  • RSA optional

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in library / museum / gallery / retail or customer service environment
  • Physical ability to manually handle furniture and equipment.
  • Working with hot substances
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good verbal, written and numeracy skills
  • Communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work alone and with other volunteers and staff
  • Courteous towards staff, customers, other volunteers and staff
  • An appreciation for cultural diversity and an ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
