Children's Aid Society of Nipissing and Parry Sound

Our Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to keeping the Agency and all of our services running smoothly. Each volunteer comes from a different walk of life, offering a unique set of skills and experiences. We truly appreciate the time and effort that volunteers contribute to the Agency. Our volunteers continue to make a positive impact on the overall well-being of families and the future of the children in our communities.

The Agency could not provide as many quality services as it does without the dedication and commitment of all of our volunteers. Whether you can give an hour, an afternoon, or a few days a week, all help is welcomed!

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please start by filling out an application form. From there we will reach out to you to begin our screening process. Please be aware that this process does include collecting a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screen as well as completing a background check of Children's Aid/child well-being records. We complete this screening process in order to ensure we are protecting the vulnerable population that our volunteers serve.

We look forward to hearing from you and getting you started on the path to a fulfilling volunteer experience with our agency. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!

Volunteer Opportunities

Family Enrichment Program

If you enjoy interacting with infants and toddlers, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers that support our Family Enrichment Program provide child care to infants and toddlers while their parents participate in educational programming. Volunteers are assigned to the same child/family for the school year in order to provide consistency in care and comfortable attachment for the child and the care provider.

Baby/Pediatric Hospital Care

This volunteer opportunity requires someone that is prepared to support young children and infants receiving hospital care. Volunteers in the hospital setting may hold and soothe babies or support toddlers whose families either are not available to provide care, or simply need a break. Studies show that infants who receive cuddling from volunteers recover more quickly and spent 20% fewer days in hospital than those who didn’t.

Volunteer Driver

Volunteer drivers assist in providing transportation for children to and from various appointments, including family visits, day care, school and other outings and events. You must have a valid G Ontario driver's license, and a reliable vehicle as well as five years of driving experience. Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage and will receive car seat training.

Mothercare

If you are interested in spending some time with young children, this may be the right volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers supporting the Mothercare program provide childcare while mothers participate in programming.

Youth Programming Volunteer

We're seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support our youth programming which runs from 4-6 pm, Monday through Thursday at our Beauchamp Youth Hub (140 Elmwood Ave, North Bay, ON). Working alongside a CAS staff, volunteers will supervise and engage youth in planned activities like crafts, open gym nights, guest speakers, or cooking classes.  This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience for those interested in education, social work and other youth-focused fields.

Donation Boutique

Our donation boutique accepts clothing, shoes and accessories (hats, mittens, scarves, ties, socks, purses, wallets) and redistributes them to families in need. Volunteers supporting the donation boutique will help in receiving, laundering, sorting, and displaying donation items that are seasonally appropriate.

Special Events

If you love to support fundraisers and special events, this opportunity is for you. Examples include: supporting our Joy Project, which provides holiday gifts to kids and families, assisting in back to school supply drives, and supporting other community events. This is a great opportunity for those who may not be able to volunteer on a regular basis, but that are looking to lend a helping hand when they can.
