RE: Christmas Campaign 2020 Changes

This year as we go forward into our 2020 Christmas Campaign we have had to make changes that will impact our volunteers and the Christmas Bureau.

The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton remains committed to its mission of providing coordination of holiday giving to Edmontonians in need for the 2020 Christmas Campaign.

As we adapt our programs to fit the environment of Covid-19, the safety of all volunteers, clients, donors and staff is of paramount importance. As such, changes have been made in how we will be able to receive donations and how we will deliver our service to the community this year.

The following, are events, we are not able to hold this year:

  • Farm Fair
  • Carol Sing A Long
  • Denton's Christmas Bureau Breakfast
  • Radio-Thon
  • Highlands Coat Check
  • Donation Desk at Kingsway, Commerce and Southgate Mall
  • Donation Desk at Old Strathcona Market
  • Donation Desk at Hand 2 Hand Market
  • Superstore Donation Desks
  • Donation Desk at Dickens Fest

We also know that things may change rapidly depending on restrictions from the CMOH (Chief Medical Officer of Health) and the Alberta Government and your patience as we work through these items is appreciated.

In lieu of the cancelled events our Christmas Bureau staff are busy working on other creative ideas and events to raise money for the 2020 campaign.  The Volunteer Committee is also looking at off-site and online engagement activities for our volunteers. So please keep an eye out on here; Better Impact Volunteer Database, emails, calls and newsletters for updates.

As for our festive FOOD HAMPER PROGRAM  including hamper packing, turkey transfer and hamper delivery, these are all on hold for 2020.  As well we have also put on hold for this year the private hamper sponsorship. We are fortunate in that we can ensure all clients receive a festive meal by issuing them food gift cards, a program that over 63% of our clients prefer.

We understand that this Christmas will be different for us all.  However, we still will need our volunteers in different capacities, now more than ever!  Please help us by sharing our social media posts, by letting people know that they can still donate directly to our website at:
www.christmasbureau.ca and that yes, we still need you for our upcoming volunteer positions.

We miss seeing your faces and your beautiful smiles during the season.  Together we will get through this and ensure everyone will have a meal this Christmas!

Sincerely,
