Work Experience (ages 18+) and Internships with New Shoots at the RHS - Please read below in full. 

 

Thank you for your interest in applying for either work experience or internships with New Shoots at the RHS.

  • All our currently available opportunities are listed below so please take a look at the descriptions. Check the placement or role is suitable for you before applying. 
  • If you can’t find the opportunity that you are looking for, it means that the applications are currently closed. You can request to be added to our mailing list here to be informed when your desired programme is open for applications. 
  • You can expect to hear back regards your application within 3-4 weeks. 

 

To apply for an opportunity, please scroll down to the box with the placement you are interested in and click through to read the details - from within the box you wish to apply for click on the 'Fill in an application button' on the right hand side. Do NOT select the 'Fill in an application' button on this main page. 

 

Our application process starts with asking you to create a profile on our work experience/volunteer management software called 'Better Impact'. If you already use Better Impact for another organisation or are a current RHS Volunteer looking to apply for a different opportunity, please use your existing username and password to log in.

RHS Garden Wisley Work Experience

RHS Garden Wisley is the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society located just off of Junction 10 of the M25 between the A3 and Woking in Surrey.

We offer work experience opportunities of up to one week, subject to availability, for individuals 18+ who are interested in developing a career in horticulture and would like to gain some practical experience to support onward training (Level 2) or career exploration. All placements are a great way for you to explore what it is like in the horticultural workplace. 

Placements are offered March to October within the following teams:

- Gardens (Curatorial) - Alpine & Rock Garden, Formal Ornamental (inc. exotic and rose gardens), Woodland Ornamental, Herbaceous Ornamental (inc. Oudolf Landscape), Glasshouse, Welcome & Riverside (inc. Pinetum and Heather Landscape), Trials, Propagation, Seed & Wellbeing, and Edibles.  

To apply for a placement you will need to complete the application form and tell us specifically why you would like to undertake work experience with the RHS.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Your application will be scored against other applications received at the point of review, and you will be notified whether you have been successful or unsuccessful in being awarded a placement. 

If you are successful, but your chosen team is no longer available (this could be due to spaces already having been filled or dates being incompatible), you will be offered an alternative team. 

PLEASE NOTE: all applicants need to be a UK or ROI citizen or be in receipt of a full UK work visa valid for the duration of any placement. The RHS is not able to sponsor visa applications.

RHS Garden Bridgewater is the newest garden of the Royal Horticultural Society located in Salford, Greater Manchester.

We offer work experience opportunities of up to one week, subject to availability, for individuals 18+ who are interested in developing a career in horticulture and would like to gain some practical experience to support onward training (Level 2) or career exploration. All placements are a great way for you to explore what it is like in the horticultural workplace. 

Placements are offered within the following teams:

All placements are a great way for you to explore what it is like in the horticultural workplace.
