Volunteers play a vital role in the day to day operation of the Children’s Cottage Society. In 2018, the Children's Cottage Society welcomed more than 1,650 volunteers who generously gave more than 20,292 hours. Clearly, the Children’s Cottage Society could not prevent harm and neglect to children and build strong families without volunteers.
As a volunteer you will work along side staff and other volunteers. Whether a one-day group team building opportunity or an individual who wishes to provide a few meaningful hours, volunteers help support all of our programs in many different ways:
Help make a difference in a child’s life when they are staying at one of our facility-based programs. Assist us with child care duties such as feeding, bathing, diaper changing and dressing. Locations: Crisis Nursery in Bridgeland or Brenda’s House in Killarney. Shift times: shifts vary Monday thru Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Do you have a special skill that you would like to share? Lead a music class, help children create masterpieces of art, or perhaps teach yoga. Help us provide a creative and meaningful experiences for families and children. Locations: Crisis Nursery in Bridgeland or Brenda’s House in Killarney. Shift times: shifts vary Monday - Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Accompany our In-Home Infant Respite Program staff into the homes of parents with newborns, 0 – 6 months of age. Volunteers will assist our staff and help provide respite to parents who are feeling so stressed that parenting feels impossible, are overwhelmed by the challenges that twins, triplets or premature infants bring or are too sick to care for their child. Volunteers are required to have infant-care experience and a reliable vehicle. Hours are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., every other week.
Do you love being in the kitchen? Help our kitchen staff provide healthy, balanced meals and snacks for the children at the Crisis Nursery or the families at Brenda’s House. Locations: Crisis Nursery in Bridgeland or Brenda’s House in Killarney. Shift times: shifts vary Monday - Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Do you like to work in an office setting? Assist in a wide variety of duties such as filing, preparing mailings, and other office activities. Location: Crisis Nursery in Bridgeland, Brenda’s House in Killarney, or our administrative office in Kensington. Shift times: shifts vary Monday – Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sort clothing and toy donations that are stored at the Crisis Nursery in Bridgeland. Shifts times: shifts vary Monday – Sunday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Help make a difference by picking up and delivering food and other donations as needed. Vehicle is required. Shifts as needed as an on-call basis.

Since 1986 The Children’s Cottage Society has been dedicated to preventing harm and neglect to children and building strong families through support services, respite programs and crisis nurseries. We are a recognized leader in providing effective programs and services to help ensure Safe Children in Healthy Families.
At the Children's Cottage Society we have long understood the detrimental effects of prolonged exposure to negative experiences in a child's early development. We recognize that the solution is prevention and we aim to ensure that children in our community have strong foundations for healthy physical and emotional development. We offer non-judgemental programs and services aimed at helping parents through a crisis regardless of what their circumstances may be. We believe that asking for help is a sign of strength and we aim to work collaboratively with local agencies to ensure families are provided with the best services and resources to meet their needs.
