Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Hospice East Bay and supporting patients and families in our community.
Hospice East Bay offers a diverse range of volunteer opportunities, from providing companionship and support to patients and their families to offering grief support for children and adults. We also have opportunities to assist with administrative tasks and other areas of service. Training for volunteer roles is offered throughout the year to ensure our volunteers are well-prepared to make a meaningful difference.
Volunteer Applications
At this time, we are only accepting and reviewing applications for the specific volunteer roles listed below that meet our current urgent needs. We expect to begin reviewing applications for additional volunteer opportunities in early 2027.
We want to be respectful of your time and commitment. By focusing on volunteers for roles where we currently have active assignments, we can ensure that new volunteers are able to begin serving as soon as possible and that their skills and interests can be used in meaningful ways. If you are interested in volunteering in a role that is not listed below, we encourage you to check back in early 2027 for updates and information about the next application period.

Licensed Hair Stylists – to provide haircuts to our patients. Applicants must hold an active California license to be considered. This includes maintaining a valid Personal Services Permit (PSP) in good standing at the time of application. Volunteer Requirements and Expectations
We’re sharing the information below to help potential volunteers decide if now is the right time to submit an application. Our goal is to make sure that every volunteer has a meaningful, well-supported experience and that their time and talents are used effectively. We deeply value every person interested in volunteering and encourage you to review these details carefully before applying to ensure the program is a good fit for you at this time.
All volunteers play an important role in representing our organization and supporting our mission. To ensure a safe, professional, and rewarding experience for everyone, we ask volunteers to meet the following requirements and expectations:

Background Check & Documentation: All volunteers complete a background check, provide required documentation, and participate in orientation and necessary training.

Time Commitment: Volunteers typically commit to about one hour per week for their assigned tasks.

Ongoing Engagement: To stay connected and continue learning, volunteers are encouraged to join at least three enrichment activities each year.

Compliance & Credentials: Volunteers must stay current with online education modules, maintain a valid ID, and provide proof of required vaccinations (or approved exemptions), health screenings, and any relevant professional certifications.

Communication: Most updates and coordination happen through text and email, so volunteers should be comfortable using these tools, including opening, editing, and sending PDF documents.
Please note that participation in the volunteer program depends on meeting these requirements. Our organization reserves the right to temporarily or permanently deny entry into the program if requirements are not met.
