General Interests

Sharing My Story Volunteer

The Share My Story program allocates volunteers to our clients to provide them with the support and assistance to complete their biography, memoir, letters to family, photo books or anything they wish to put in words. Our volunteers spend 6-7 sessions with the clients and present a finished printed copy when completed.

Previous experience in writing and IT is preferable but not essential as all volunteers proceed with palliative care training together with writing and biography training to be able to better support our clients.

Administration Volunteer

Palliative Care South East Administration Volunteers assist by providing support with data entry, filing, mail out, stocking and maintaining our stores room, assisting with events and support groups together with making client and staff administration packs.

All volunteers receive training for their specific roles within the administration program.

Ambassador Volunteer

Ambassador Volunteers are the 'face' of the organisation. They assist by planning and presenting to groups on palliative care and Palliative Care South East services, representing PCSE at events as well as assisting with coordination, set up and pack up of events, expos and presentations.

Bereavement Volunteer

PCSE bereavement volunteers are an essential support to carers and family of the deceased. They provide emotional and compassionate care through phone call follow ups, support group settings and provide information for further support through PCSE or external settings.

Companionship Support Volunteer

At Palliative Care South East volunteers are an integral part of our service and our team.

Trained in palliative care support, volunteers provide support, assistance, companionship and understanding for clients, carers and families according to individual needs.

  • Giving practical help such as shopping
  • Providing companionship
  • Providing opportunities for outings
  • Helping with recreation and hobby activities
  • Listening, reading to a client, sharing music, watching movies
  • Preparation of light meals and drinks
  • Reminiscing
  • Just being there

Volunteers may provide help and relief for a carer, or they may provide companionship and practical support such as banking and shopping for a person who does not have a carer in the home.

Volunteers give their time freely and generally commit to a regular time each week or fortnight, depending on the individual need.

Patient Transport

Palliative Care South East offers Patient Transport to clients who require support to attend appointments at our on site EPIC clinic. Clients are also able to request support for external appointments on approval and availability.

Bereavement Memorabilia

The Volunteer Memorabilia program aims to provide additional support to the bereaved after the death of a loved one through the creation of personal memorabilia. Volunteers liaise with the bereaved to design and create (by sewing) memorabilia items from the clothes of the deceased. Each item is unique and offers comfort that evokes cherished memories and holds an extra special meaning for the owner.

Virtual Reality

The Volunteer Virtual Reality program aims to provide additional support to clients with limited mobility by providing them access to the world of virtual reality to explore and experience the opportunity to ‘escape’. Using the virtual reality goggle’s enables a sense of wellbeing to both the client and their loved ones by achieving possible client goals or ‘bucket list’ items.

Volunteers will be required to support the client in wearing and utilising the VR googles, assisting with accessing the VR experiences and recording any notes/data from the VR sessions.

The VR sessions will be provided by a scheduled roster with volunteers required Monday - Friday morning and afternoons.
