Anam Cara Colac offers a unique model of care with great volunteer opportunities that are both unique and rewarding. Our trained volunteers are pivotal in the delivery of specialized "home like" care. Our management is committed to a high standard of training, professional development and support for our Volunteer team.

Day Respite Volunteers assist in the running of the activity days run to support guest and their family for day visit to Anam Cara. The activities are based on the interests of the guest and may include gardening, games, craft, quizzes, music and sometimes just a good chat and a cuppa. Volunteers also help with meals and kitchen duties and are supported by the Staff on duty.
Volunteers assist in the running of supports groups, collecting group members from their home to attend the group, participating in the various guest speakers and info sessions and helping with afternoon tea. Meets on the last Friday of each month and runs from 2-4pm
Hospice care volunteer
This role involves assisting in the daily care needs of guest staying at hospice, along side a registered nurse and helping with light duties once completing the required manual handling and palliative care training course that are provided by Anam Cara. Times do vary as needs are required times can be negotiated by your availability.
Become a "Stories for life" writer and help our guests tell their stories. They may want to pass on knowledge or just to share experiences in their life. As a volunteer you will be trained in ways to document and convert these stories into keepsakes for the person in whatever form they like. Photo's poem or a tale to tell for years to come.
In-home-hospice care. We run a volunteer based care service in the home to support the family and person who may be nearing end-of-life. Volunteers are trained and supported by Nurses and Volunteer Coordinator, to ease the fatigue of all involved in caring for someone who wants to die at home. Duties such as meal prep, washing and companionship so the family can step a away for a break.
Contributions to the care and maintenance of grounds keeping of Anam Cara House. Duties may include, gardening and exterior cleaning of building such as windows and pathways.
