Volunteer - The Village at Black Creek (Costuming)

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
As a volunteer maker you will participate in the development/maintenance of our costume collection and our special event props/decor
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Simple alterations (for example: mending garments, sewing buttons etc.)
- Painting, gluing, small prop assembly
- Assist with garment construction
- Assist with inventory management
- Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures
What will you need to succeed:
- Sound basic sewing and mending knowledge (i.e. general stitches, button attachment, stitch ripping, patching, using a domestic sewing machine)
- Safe handling of sharp tools (i.e. pins, needles, scissors, etc.)
- The ability to follow detailed instructions
- The ability to work under time constraints
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of historical costuming practices considered an asset but not necessary
- Additional optional skills include knitting, crochet, fibre crafts, upholstery, general craftiness
