Job Description
Ready to help make a difference? Join our dedicated team in the Wildlife Department! Wildlife Volunteers help with the care of wild animals, including general husbandry, feeding, cleaning, and medicating. Volunteers help in numerous supportive ways in the SPCA’s busy wildlife hospital and are a vital part of our wildlife care team!
Commitment
Our volunteer program requires a significant commitment. To benefit from our comprehensive training, we ask volunteers to commit to one consistent 4-hour shift per week for at least a year. While we understand that occasional absences or extended periods of unavailability may occur, volunteers are expected to maintain their assigned weekly shift (same day and time each week) whenever possible.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Care for wildlife by monitoring behavior, feeding animals, and cleaning cages.
- Help in the handling of animals for assessment, medical care, and moving to new enclosures.
- Keep the wildlife hospital clean and disinfected, including all animal enclosures.
- Commitment to mission, values, goals, and success of the SPCA Serving Erie County.
Requirements
- 18 years of age, physically fit, and able to lift at least 20 pounds
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision at times.
- Exceptional kindness to all animals, guests, volunteers, and staff per our core mission.
- Willingness to work with and respectfully communicate with all staff and volunteers.
