Surgical Suite Assistant in the Veterinary Services Department
Job Description
Join our team and provide compassionate care to animals before and after surgery. As a Surgical Suite Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the comfort and well-being of our furry patients.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Gently handling and restraining animals during procedures
- Preparing animals for surgery and monitoring their recovery
- Transporting animals safely within the shelter and to and from the surgical suite
- Maintaining a clean and organized surgical environment, including restocking supplies
Commitment
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with potential for occasional weekend and/or evening shifts on an as-needed basis. (Same day and time each week, minimum of 6 months)
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Get our animals ready for surgery: You'll help prepare animals for their procedures, ensuring they're comfortable and safe.
- Provide TLC during recovery: You'll be there to offer support and care as animals wake up from surgery, helping them feel calm and secure.
- Keep things clean and organized: You'll play a vital role in maintaining a tidy surgical area, restocking supplies, and preparing everything for the next day.
- Share our passion: We're looking for someone who is truly dedicated to the SPCA's mission of helping animals in need. Your commitment to our values and goals will make a real difference in the lives of countless animals.
Requirements
- You're able to bend, lift, and handle animals weighing up to 40 pounds with ease.
- A love for animals is key! Experience with animals or medical knowledge is a bonus, but not a requirement. We'll provide all the training you need.
- You're not squeamish. You understand that working with animals sometimes involves blood and other potentially upsetting sights.
- You're eager to learn! You're open to learning new things and even helping out with sterilizing surgical instruments.
- Kindness is your superpower! You treat all animals, visitors, volunteers, and staff with compassion and respect, reflecting our core mission.
- You're a team player! You communicate effectively and work well with everyone on the team, creating a positive and supportive environment.
