Ely has welcomed visitors and pilgrims for over 1300 years. Visible for miles around, the Cathedral is often referred to as ‘The Ship of the Fens.'
We are delighted to have a team 350 + volunteers, from a wide variety of backgrounds, who support our ongoing mission and work.
Below are the various opportunities we currently have available. Please spend some time looking through and reading the relevant role descriptions. The first stage in the process is to submit a digital application. Once received, we will then invite you in for an 'informal chat'. We look forward to hearing from you!

Guide
Join our team of trained guides and be responsible for taking visitors on fascinating tours of this remarkable cathedral.
Shop
Provide a warm welcome in this visitor facing retail role, sharing the stories behind our products and supporting the smooth operation of the Cathedral Shop.
We require people for specific shift patterns:
- Saturdays - 14.00 - 16.30
- Sundays - 12.30 - 15.00

Biodiversity Team
Having been awarded A Rocha Eco Church Gold in August 2024, this is an exciting role as we seek to support and increase biodiversity across the cathedral precinct. Join a dedicated and friendly team who maintain our very own orchard in the Dean's Paddock, as well as help tend and monitor other areas with the aim of improving biodiversity.

Welcome Team Member
Become a member of our Welcome Team and provide a well-informed and hospitable welcome to our many and varied visitors. Be a visible presence, ready to engage, inform, and assist, helping people feel confident during their visit.

Ely Cathedral Octagon Singers
Ely Cathedral Octagon Singers (ECOS) is our adult voluntary choir. Those with choral experience and good vocal skills are especially suited for this role.
As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to undergo an informal friendly audition.

Day Chaplain
Join our Chaplaincy Team and be pro-active in greeting visitors, listening to their concerns as well as encouraging them to engage spiritually with the Cathedral.
Please note: Only individuals who are ordained or a licensed minister of a denomination within Churches Together in England may offer for this ministry.
