Community Programs - Creative Arts Program Volunteer

The Creative Arts Program is designed to promote mental health and well-being through the power of creative expression. Focused on crafts, the program encourages participants to explore various art forms as a means of self-expression and stress relief. Utilizing artistic activities, the program aims to enhance participants' emotional resilience, foster a sense of community, and promote personal growth.

 

PURPOSE

 

The Creative Arts Program Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Arts and Wellness team. This position involves facilitating art sessions, helping to create a nurturing environment where community members can develop their artistic skills and enhance their mental well-being.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Your responsibilities encompass various tasks that contribute to the overall success and impact of the program:

 

1. Greet program participants as they arrive and provide clear directions to the program area. Ensure they feel comfortable and welcome.

 

2. Foster a friendly, inclusive, and safe environment during program sessions. Offer support, encouragement, and positive feedback to participants. Promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion among all participants.

 

3. Assist program participants in completing program evaluations in a non bias manner.

 

4. Support the design and plan weekly craft program sessions, ensuring a variety of creative activities that promote accessibility, mental well-being and artistic expression.

 

5. Actively provide feedback and suggestions to the Health and Wellness team for program enhancement. Your insights can contribute to making the program more impactful and responsive to community needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS /REQUIRED SKILLS

 

  • Ability to work effectively with culturally and economically diverse individuals, while accommodating a wide range of abilities. Demonstrate commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Passion for creative expression.
  • Must complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.

 

SUPERVISION

 

  1. Each Volunteer will be assigned a staff supervisor.
  2. The staff supervisor or a designated staff will be available (either in person or by phone) if a question or issue arises.
  3. The Volunteer is also encouraged to connect with the staff supervisor at any time to discuss an idea or issue as they arise.

 

ORIENTATION/TRAINING

 

  1. Complete the CHCKW Volunteer Application Form.
  2. Volunteers are required to submit the following before beginning their position: Vulnerable Sector Police Check , Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination, 2 References.
  3. Complete Volunteer orientation training modules and read required policies. Approximately 5 hours will be required to complete this training.

 

 

EVALUATION

 

  1. Volunteers receive ongoing performance feedback from their staff mentor and can provide and request feedback as required.
  2. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in an Exit Survey.

 

TIME COMMITMENT, REQUIRED HOURS & LOCATION

Time Commitment: 2 months

Required Hours: Fridays from 9:30 am-12:00 pm
