About the Program

 

The Friendship Club is a respite program for over-65s based at Wakefield House that provides meaningful activities. Volunteers and staff foster a positive, friendly, and safe for community members. 

As a volunteer bus driver, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the social inclusion opportunities of clients by transporting them to and from Wakefield House, making a significant difference in their lives.

 

Key Tasks

  • Be friendly and helpful: greet passengers with a smile and make sure they feel welcome.
  • Drive safely: follow the rules of the road and keep everyone safe.
  • Help passengers: assist people who need help getting on or off the bus.
  • Follow the plan: be receptive to your volunteer coordinator's instructions.
  • Report problems: if something wrong happens, let your volunteer coordinator know immediately.
  • Keep the bus clean: make sure the bus is always tidy and in good condition.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Personal Qualities

  • Must have a current Class C Driver's License.
  • Good at Working with others as a team.
  • Kindness and understanding of clients.
  • Can connect with people from all walks of life.
  • Tech-savvy: able to use a smartphone and GPS.
  • Knows the rules: aware of safety regulations and how to report accidents.
  • Physically fit: able to do the job's physical tasks.

 

Time Commitment

Join us every Monday and Thursday and become vital to our community's support network. If it suits your schedule better, you can choose to volunteer only one shift a week.

 

Special Requirements

  • Valid South Australian driver's license.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check (NPC) – this will be organised for you.
  • The successful applicant must possess and provide a Department of Human Services (DHS) clearance (Aged Care Sector) prior to offer of employment – this will be arranged for you.

  • Medical Letter from your GP.
  • Competency level achieved by driving – this will be organised for you.
