IN THE LIBRARY - Community Threads Partner

Community Threads volunteers support the library’s hands-on sewing programs that bring community members together through hands-on creativity. Volunteers assist the librarian running the program by helping participants use sewing machines, access supplies, and complete their projects. This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy crafting, working with families and individuals of all ages, and fostering a welcoming, supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist participants in learning to use sewing machines and other basic sewing tools
- Help troubleshoot small issues as they arise (threading machines, adjusting fabric, fixing simple mistakes)
- Support the librarian with program setup, distribution of supplies, and cleanup
- Provide encouragement and guidance to participants of all ages and skill levels
- Maintain a safe and inclusive space for creativity and learning
Qualifications:
- Some sewing experience helpful, but advanced skills not required
- Friendly, patient, and supportive when assisting participants
- Enjoy working with people of all ages, including children and families
- Dependable and punctual for scheduled program sessions
- Willingness to learn program procedures and safety guidelines
Commitment:
- Volunteer during scheduled Community Threads programs (1–3 hours per session)
- Flexible schedule, based on program offerings
