The Synagogue resettles refugees fleeing their homelands in partnership with HIAS (formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) and the U.S. State Department.
Refugees are people who cannot return to their homeland due to a well-founded fear of persecution. They may be persecuted for their religious or political beliefs. Many flee from war, genocide, or brutality by a military regime. Our Refugee Resettlement Work Over the past five years, we have worked directly with refugees running ESL and Citizenship Classes for refugees in the Tulsa area. As of October 2021, we are an official Resettlement and Placement office servicing the needs of refugee arrivals during their first months in Tulsa. These programs and services assist refugees in becoming engaged U.S. citizens. We work closely with them to ensure that each individual achieves independence and is a productive member of our society. We help refugees resettle here safely, learn English, gain employment and become valued, contributing members of our community.
Refugees bring optimism, hope, and unique vibrancy that enriches our local community. Our multi-cultural, multi-lingual staff provides comprehensive services – starting from picking up refugees at the airport, registering children in school, and finding initial employment. Staff, supported by volunteers, walk with families as they learn to navigate healthcare, social services, and life decisions in their new home.
The success of this program is based on community partnerships with employers, volunteers, landlords, school districts, donors, and community-based organizations. We depend on our community to assist in the successful resettlement of refugees.

We are in a high need of household items to make our Refugees feel at home. Refugees often flee their homes at a moment’s notice. They arrive at our airport with few belongings, a difficult past, and earnest hope for the future.
If there is any way you can donate some of these items, feel free to come to the Synagogue and leave them at our Resettlement office.
If unable to drop off items to the synagogue, we do have an amazon registry link available here!
Here is a list of the items we are needing:
