Vancouver Breakthrough T1D Walk 2025
Breakthrough T1D™ Walk (formerly JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes) is a fun, engaging, and inspiring family-friendly event where participants, volunteers and sponsors come together to create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
On Saturday June 7th we need the support of our committed volunteers to help make the day a success!
Location: Lumbermen's Arch, Avison Way & Stanley Park Dr., Vancouver, British Columbia
Join the Breakthrough T1D™ Walk and sign up to volunteer. Volunteer for the day or let us know a role that works best for you! We have a variety of roles for both youth and adult volunteers.
Event Set Up
Responsible for ensuring that designated areas of the Walk are set up including distributing tables, chairs, equipment for tents, hanging signage and other tasks. Note: some heavy lifting will be required in this role.
Greeter & Cheer Crew
Become part of the greeter & cheer crew where you will warmly greet our walkers, ensure they have completed a waiver and direct them to the appropriate registration areas. Cheer on the walkers when they start and finish the walk.
Participant Check-in
As part of the check-in crew, you will warmly welcome participants to the event, accept cash and/or credit card donations and provide participants with event day swag! This role is for volunteers over the age of 18+.
Refreshments
Become part of the refreshment crew and help us set up the refreshment tent. You will distribute prepackaged snacks and drinks throughout the day, monitor their levels and replenish them as needed.
Family Fun Zone
Encourage and assist children in taking part in games/activities in the kid’s activity area.
Route Marshal
Assist with directing participants along the walk route. This role includes cheering on the walkers and handing out water and snacks to participants when required.
Take Down
We need your help after the walk to take down the event. Note: some heavy lifting will be required in this role.
What you bring to this role
We’re seeking reliable individuals who will ensure participants have an amazing experience at this year’s Walk. If you have the following attributes, we want to hear from you:
- Excellent customer service skills
- A willingness to help where needed most
- Flexible and adaptable
- Able to problem-solve and seek support when needed
- Able to volunteer outdoors rain or shine

Physical requirements
While physical requirements vary roles may require bending, standing, and lifting.
