Volunteer Role:

Co-curation of activities for Meet me at the Museum (Elder’s Group)

 

Role Description:

We are looking for a group of 4-6 volunteers to co-curate 6 creative sessions for our programme targeting 65 years + upon reopening in 2025. This is a project commencing Jan 2024 and requires a commitment of at least till Dec 2025.

You will be curating and testing out your ideas with other community groups throughout 2024 as part of Museum on the Move. These can be planned around the Scaplen’s Court Garden, History Centre, Museum Collections, various Exhibitions and general Wellbeing activities.

Location:

Poole Library (for planning meetings Jan- Mar 24) but location will vary afterwards depending on where we are testing the sessions. Upon reopening this will be done at the museum site itself.

 

Activity Dates and times: To be decided by the group

Number of Volunteers Required:

4 core members but open to accepting up to 6

 

Skills/Qualifications/Experience needed:

We are looking for someone who:

 has a friendly and engaging personality

 is a good communicator

 is willing to learn, take instruction, work as part of a team but also use own initiative

 is physically fit [not a main requirement]

 enjoys planning and budgeting

 has experience running/conducting programmes for adults

 

 What is the minimum age for this volunteer role:

18

 

What level of fitness is required? (e.g walking, lifting, standing for long periods of time):

None. Anyone with any levels of fitness can take part.

  • pavement-level lift by the bus station to second floor entrance
  • escalator to entrance by HMV in the Dolphin Centre
  • ample car parking in the Dolphin Centre car park.

You will be provided with a Poole Museum Volunteer lanyard

Can expenses be claimed. If so, what is the limit?

Travel expenses can be claim for up to £5 per shift. Please email poolemuseumvolunteers@bcpcouncil.gov.uk for required forms. Receipts must be submitted with your claim.

How to get to Poole Museum and Scaplen's Court if that is where the activity is taking place

(Please note the museum buildings are currently closed).

The museum is at the Quay side end of the High Street.

Walk

This is approximately a 12 - 15-minute walk from both Poole Railway Station and Poole Bus Station.

Bus

Route One bus service from the bus station stops at Orchard Plaza (during the summer months) and outside the museum (winter timetable).

Circular Routes 8 & 9 have stops hearby.
