IT Assistant - Various Libraries


Do you have good ICT skills to share with others? Would you like to assist members of the public gain ICT skills so that they can use their laptops, tablets and smartphones more effectively? We are looking for friendly, helpful and patient volunteers to assist our residents in learning new skills to help them update and develop new ICT Skills.


Main Tasks:


To train and support customers attending computer training courses or Digital Drop In sessions in the library on the internet, email, Microsoft Office Programmes and downloading apps.


  • Assist customers to develop their current computer skills and use the technology provided; including laptops, tablets and smartphones.

  • Help customers set up email accounts and access the internet

  • Help customers to use various sites such as banking, utility sites, shopping etc

  • Increase the customer’s knowledge in Microsoft Word

  • Promote lifelong learning to customers and signpost to further support/training available


Skills Required:


  • Confident in some or all of the basic use of computers, tablets, smartphones and the internet but not necessarily an expert.

  • Good ICT skills, (particularly in using internet, email and Microsoft Office programmes)

  • Good listening skills and the ability to teach skills in a “customer friendly manner”.

  • A calm and patient approach when customers do not pick up the skills immediately.

  • The ability to teach/guide and facilitate a small group of people at one time

  • To be able to answer ICT related questions or be prepared to find out the answers.

  • Basic ICT troubleshooting skills


When:  Times and dates to be agreed as various positions are available.


Where: At one of our eight libraries situated in the borough.
