Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at Siloam Mission. Please complete either an individual or group application form.

 

We will process your application within 3-5 business days. If you have applied to volunteer as an individual volunteer, please note that once you have completed the application form you will receive links to 3 eLearning modules to complete the Volunteer Orientation Part 1.  Once these are complete, you will be able to sign in online via your opportunities calendar and sign up for volunteer shifts where you will need to request a tour on your first shift in order to complete Part 2 of the Volunteer Orientation.

If you have applied to volunteer as a group, please note that once you have completed the application form, you will receive an email from Volunteer Services indicating how you can log in again to select which dates you would like to volunteer.

General Interests

Siloam Ambassador (Tours and Offsite Opportunities)

Help Volunteer Services and the Development departments in providing tours to new volunteers, donors and the wider community who may be interested in learning more about Siloam Mission. We are recruiting for people who want to help bring awareness of Winnipeg's inner city and those who are experiencing homeless to others and what Siloam is doing about it. 

 

Saul Sair Health Center - Medical Professional

The SSHC falls under P.H.I.A (Personal Health Information Act). Please provide us with your professional medical license and or registration number in the appropriate section below.

Medical Practitioners, Nurses, Podiatry, Optometry, Dental, Massage Therapy, Physiotherapy, Acupuncture, etc. 

Haircuts and Care

The Siloam Salon is recruiting for volunteer hairdressers, barbers, and stylists. Please provide us with your hair cutting,hair styling, barbering experience and licence or registration number. 

Volunteers also do nail care at the salon. If you can offer other forms of personal care services for our community members, please contact volunteer@siloam.ca.

Drop In Care

The Drop-In Centre is the heart of Siloam Mission where community members, staff , and volunteers can connect. The Drop-In is seeking volunteers who are willing to sit down, connect with individuals using our services, while taking the time to help out as needed to serve and clean up after the meals. Build meaningful relationships. Be a part of the team that fulfills both physical and emotional hunger.

Saul Sair Health Center - Professional Shadowing

Students graduated from or who are currently in a medical program will shadow professional medical volunteers.

Arts and Wellness

Please provide us with information regarding your connection to the wider art community in Winnipeg and any relevant professional art or counselling experience.  We have many talented artists using our services at Siloam who could use your help in furthering their skills, developing artistic connections while also finding healing though art. 

Musical Performance

The Drop-In Centre welcomes choirs, and musicians to sing for our community. We are seeking volunteers who can provide their own equipment/instrument and who are okay with performing as background music. Please note we ask for links, mp3 or any kind of description/sample of your music and we always want to be mindful of our community, so we do not have any drums or loud music.  

Food Services - Kitchen Duties

Help out in the Kitchen with meal preparation, serving, and cleanup. Interact in a positive way with community members as they enjoy their meal. Volunteers will be serving meals in an assembly line up via a window through the kitchen area into the Drop-In Centre. Individual volunteers work alongside a group of volunteers and the Kitchen staff to help serve the meal. 

 

Donation Sorting

Donation Sorting volunteers are the gatekeepers for the Clothing Program. With hundreds of donations a year, volunteers will sort and organize clothing and personal items that empower and provide dignity for those who use Siloam's services.

Volunteers who have interest in folding, hanging, and labeling clothing items accord to size, type, and gender as well as a mindful understanding for donations are encouraged to sign up.

Drop In Center - Interaction and Clean Up

Help out in our drop in center where our community members come in to rest, visit, have a meal or a cup of coffee. Volunteers and Volunteer groups have the opportunity to interact directly with our community members, help clean up the space and serve the meal as needed to folks with limited mobility issues. 

Volunteer Group - Drop In Center - Total 4 people max (Age 18+)

A great opportunity for volunteers to have a conversation, serve a meal to those with limited mobility all while helping out as needed to clean. This role is less task driven and all about creating meaningful connections. Interact with staff, volunteer and community members as a team that fulfills both physical and emotional hunger. 

Volunteer Group - Donation Sorting - 10 people max (Age 6+)

Creative Connection Volunteer

The Creative Connection area is an inclusive space where meaningful connections are made through the use of small crafts. This volunteer role must provide support for community members by listening, building relationships, and encouraging them to further engage with other services at Siloam Mission. 

The Madison Volunteering

Volunteer at The Madison, Siloam Mission's recovery housing project in Wolseley.  We are currently housing 85 residents who may have used our services, or who need additional living supports.

The Madison is a unique opportunity to connect with people in a "homier" setting by helping to prepare the meals in the cafeteria, helping with recreation and activity groups, pet therapy and more! Please note further screening and training will be required. 

Mission Statement

A connecting point between the compassionate and Winnipeg’s less fortunate, Siloam Mission is a Christian humanitarian organization that alleviates hardships and provides opportunities for change for those affected by homelessness.

 

Volunteer Requirements 

All volunteers at Siloam Mission must: 

  • Be compassionate towards the people using our services
  • Complete either an individual or group application form
  • Complete the volunteer orientation e-modules and in person training with a tour
  • Agree to respect and not detract from our Statement of Beliefs 
  • Agree to the Siloam Mission Oath of Confidentiality
  • Agree to follow Siloam Mission’s volunteer policies, dress code and safety parameters
  • Schedule their volunteer time with a Volunteer Services staff prior to volunteering
  • Registered volunteers must refrain from using the services of Siloam Mission 
  • Volunteers that are part of Transition Services must fill out the Transition Services Volunteer Agreement
  • Agree or disagree to Photo Waiver 
  • Agree to follow COVID-19 Safety measures as mandated by Shared Health MB at Siloam 

If you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, contact your local public health authority and isolate yourself at home for 14 days to avoid spreading it to others. Most people with mild symptoms will recover on their own.

Adults and children who have mild COVID-19 symptoms are able to stay at home with a caregiver throughout their recovery without needing hospitalization. If you’re a caregiver, follow the advice on how to care for someone with COVID-19 at home.

Volunteer Services reserves the right to remove a volunteer and reassign or dismiss a volunteer if the volunteer is not adhering to policies.
