Thank-You for your interest in volunteering with the Toronto History Museums Youth Volunteer Program! We are currently offering volunteer opportunities for high-school youth aged 14-18. Volunteers are able to learn new skills, become a part of a youth-based community, and contribute to museum programming.


Locations

Toronto History Museums is a collection of 10 historic sites across the city. Youth Volunteering is currently available at:

  • Colborne Lodge
  • Fort York National Historic Site
  • Gibson House Museum (new volunteer trainings in Jan, Apr, June, Sept & Nov)
  • Mackenzie House
  • Montgomery's Inn
  • Scarborough Museum
  • Spadina Museum
  • Todmorden Mills

Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities are currently being offered for high-school youth aged 14-18. Youth can volunteer to develop new skills, engage with their community, and contribute to museum programming. 

Special Events & Weekends

Event volunteers greet visitors, lead activities, and assist staff with stations. Volunteers may also assist with set-up and clean-up of events. Specific duties will vary depending on the event.

Weekly Programs

Youth participate in hands-on activities that focus on developing new skills while interacting with their peers and connecting with the community. Activities and themes rotate seasonally, but youth can expect to engage with the public, contribute to the activation of museum spaces, and to assist with the development of museum programs.

Summer Camps

Camp volunteers engage with campers and assist staff with activities, set-up, and clean-up. Museum staff will assist volunteer in obtaining a mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening check, and volunteers will need complete an additional camp-specific training.

Additional Special Projects

Additional volunteering projects to contribute to museum displays, play historic pianos, transcribing historic diaries, joining a crochet circle, taking on leadership roles within the community, assist with gardening, and more! 

Time Commitment

Youth will complete two hours of training before starting their volunteer experience.

Shifts are offered regularly on weekends, school breaks, some evenings throughout the year, and weekdays during the summer. Shifts range from 2 - 8 hours, and shift selection is flexible, with no minimum commitment at this time.
