Conservation - Middletown Community Garden - Spring Cleanup

Event Description:

Work with our Programming staff to prep the community gardens for the planting season tasks include weeding/repairing beds/fixing the shed/hanging hoses/spreading dirt/digging up some fruit plants to be moved to CHF/removing debris from compost/flipping compost/planting cold veggies

Task:

May include

  • Remove compost debris that is not breaking down and put in back of farm truck.
  • Turn compost soil over.
  • Move soil from the parking lot to raised beds
  • Clean out shed
  • Set up signs
  • Maybe push till some of the raised beds
  • Clean up along fence rows

Dates Times and Location:

  • Saturday, April 18th, 10:00am - 12:00pm, Middletown Community Garden - 800 LaFayette Ave, Middletown, OH 45044

What to Wear & Bring:

  • Long pants
  • Sturdy, closed-toed shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing and layers (Warm jacket, rain jacket, hat, extra layer, etc.)
  • Sunglasses (Optional; For sun protection during outside activities.)
  • Work gloves (Optional; Available through MetroParks.)
  • Water bottle (we will have a refill station avalible)
  • Snacks
  • It is recommended you bring your tools but we will have tools avalible

Weather: 

We will work through light rain and snow but cancel for thunderstorms or severe weather.  please check the forecast to ensure you all bring the necessary items and wear the proper clothing.

 

Accommodations: 

The MetroParks may provide accommodation to volunteer project participants depending on the nature of the tasks. Any request must be sent directly to the Manager of Volunteer Resources at least two days before the project begins
