Education - Salamander Migration
Event Description:
Experience Nature in a Blink, a year-long series in which MetroParks offers opportunities throughout the year to appreciate fleeting natural occurrences.
The moment the ground begins to thaw, the salamanders of Indian Creek are ready to go! Join us during this one-night, special evening program to observe migration from forest to vernal pools where the salamanders can safely lay their eggs.
Once the migration has been confirmed, signed-up volunteers will be notified the night before or morning of the program and have until 2:00pm that day to confirm their availability. All spaces not claimed by 2:00pm will be offered to those on the backup list.
Task:
This opportunity is only for volunteers 18 and older
Greet participants and assist with salamander program orientation. Hike with participants to assist with safety concerns and program activities on the trail.
Dates Times and Location:
- Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 2/1/25 - 3/31/25. 6:30 pm-11:00 pm, Indian Creek MetroPark (6500 Springfield Road, Oxford, OH 45056)
Weather:
We will work through light rain and snow but cancel for thunderstorms or severe weather. please check the forecast to ensure you all bring the necessary items and wear the proper clothing.
Accommodations:
The MetroParks may provide accommodation to volunteer project participants depending on the nature of the tasks. Any request must be sent directly to the Manager of Volunteer Resources at least two days before the project begins
