Conservation - Gilmore Ponds Kayak Cleanup

Event Description:

Join MetroParks and Butler Soil and Water Conservation District for a day on the water at Gilmore Ponds as we work to clean up litter floating just out of reach on the shore in your own kayak. This event is dependent upon water levels in Gilmore Ponds MetroPark being deep enough for us to safely navigate 

Dates, Times, and Location:

Saturday, July 12th, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm                                                                        Gilmore Ponds MetroPark, 7950 N. Gilmore Road, Hamilton OH 45015

Task:

This is a BYOK (bring your own Kayak) and personal flotation device (Registrations are required for every recreational boat in Ohio, including canoes, kayaks, and inflatable boats); we will have tools and bags for collecting the trash. We will be paddling through wooded areas, so you will need to be able to dodge and weave under tree branches. 

What to Wear & Bring:

  • Clothing you don't mind getting wet and dirty
  • Water shoe's, 
  • Weather-appropriate clothing and layers (Warm jacket, rain jacket, hat, extra layer, etc.)
  • Sunglasses (Optional; For sun protection during outside activities)
  • Work gloves (Optional; Available through MetroParks.)
  • Water bottle (we will have a refill station avalible)
  • Snacks
  • MetroParks will provide all other tools necessary to complete the tasks for the day.

 

Weather: We will work through light rain, but cancel for thunderstorms or severe weather. Please check the forecast to ensure you all bring the necessary items and wear the proper clothing.

 

Accommodations: The MetroParks may provide accommodations to volunteer project participants depending on the nature of the tasks. Any request must be sent directly to the Manager of Volunteer Resources at least two days before the project begins.
