Spanish Conversation Facilitator: Main Library
Role Title: Spanish Conversation Facilitator
Location: Beaverton City Library Main, 12375 SW 5th St, Beaverton, OR, 97005
Schedule: Thursdays, 5-6 PM.
Note: This program is only offered on Thursdays and cannot accommodate flexible scheduling.
Commitment:
- We ask volunteers to make an initial 3-month commitment.
- Number of hours per week: 1
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in facilitating conversations by following the program agenda and addressing participant questions.
- Support the host in welcoming both new and returning participants to the program.
- Distribute name tags to regular participants and provide temporary name placards for new attendees.
- Offer an email reminder form to new participants for updates about future sessions.
- Collaborate with the host to split larger groups into smaller, manageable sessions when needed and lead one group.
How you will make a difference: By volunteering as a Conversation Facilitator, you’ll help create a supportive space where patrons can practice Spanish without fear of judgment. Your contribution will empower participants to build confidence, develop communication skills, and feel more connected to the Spanish speaking community through meaningful conversations.

- Proficiency in English AND Spanish: Clear and effective communication skills to guide conversations.
- Reliability: Consistent and punctual attendance at scheduled sessions.
- Patience and Understanding: Comfort in working with individuals at varying levels of Spanish fluency.
- Approachability: A friendly demeanor to create a safe, supportive atmosphere.
Age limit or range: 18+
Interaction: Volunteers will work closely with the program host to facilitate conversations. If the group size is large, volunteers may assist by hosting a smaller breakout group to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate.
