Time Commitment |
1.5 hours per week. Sessions run Sept-Dec, Jan-March, and April-June. The volunteer would have the same scheduled time each week per session. We are looking for a commitment of at least 2 sessions. |

POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Dance volunteer you will support the Dance Instructor in many aspects of the program. Come prepared to move! Modeling active and enthusiastic participation is crucial, and previous Dance experience is helpful. Other duties could include assisting the Instructor in teaching choreography, technique, facilitating warm-ups, games, and cool downs as well as the logistical concerns such as sign in/out.
Age requirement: 16+
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with participation in programs
- Build relationships with the participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Communicate with Arts Program Director regarding any situations during your shift

SKILLS
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
- Able to engage with a group of youth and display positive behaviour-management techniques
- Previous dance experience
- Experience teaching dance to youth an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Three references – one can be personal reference
- Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
- Available evenings and/or weekends if required
