POSITION OVERVIEW
Gymnasium Attendants help provide positive experiences and promote healthy communities at our
YMCA’s by building relationship with gymnasium drop-in participants. Gymnasium Volunteers help
supervise the gymnasiums during drop-in hours. This position includes helping make drop-in gym a
welcoming area by talking to participants as well as helping ensure everyone is safe and following the rules.
Age requirement: 18 years +
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Gymnasium Attendant will:
- Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated
with participation in sport programs - Build relationships with the sport participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Communicate, engage and enforce policy and procedures with all gymnasium users.
- Trouble shoot and provide conflict resolution to any appointment bookings or user concerns
- Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Set up and take down equipment
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Communicate with Sport Supervisor and/or Duty Manager regarding any situations during
your shift

SKILLS
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests,

- Customer service experience
- Can think quick on your feet and can problem solve to de-escalate situations
- A love for sport as well as personal and community development
- Ability to stand for 2 hours
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, be creative, and self-directed
- Attention to detail and customer oriented
- Engaging and outgoing personality
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively
- Experience engaging and working with diverse groups of people
QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Three references – one can be personal reference
- Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various
YMCA locations - Available evenings and/or weekends
