POSITION OVERVIEW
Volunteers within the Youth Engagement, Community department will provide support through
facilitation and co-facilitation youth engagement programs and activities such as Fun Sport
activities, Arts & Crafts, Health and Fitness, and Youth Leadership programs, under the guidance
of a Youth Worker. This role involves engaging with the youth in programs creating an environment
that is positive, inclusive, and safe for all. Youth Engagement volunteers will be supervised by and
require ongoing communication with the Youth Worker.
Age requirement: 16 + with the discretion of the Youth Worker Team
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with
participation in programs - Build relationships with the participants, YMCA staff and volunteers
- Provide leadership to youth and guide them in activities such as soccer, badminton, hockey, mental health, dance and more
- Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Communicate with Youth Workers regarding any questions or concerns regarding individual or situations during program time
- Deal with minor behaviors of the participants in the programs
- Facilitate delivery of pre-planned activities
- Completing all YMCA trainings

SKILLS
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Willingness to work and engage with youth in different capacity
- Ability to facilitate and engage in recreational activities, fun sports activities with youth
- Have an interest in physical literacy, health and fitness
- Able to manage behaviours of youth in the program
- Be comfortable to lead and supervise the program without a Youth Worker being present
QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Three references – one can be personal reference
- Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
- Available evenings and/or weekends if required
