POSITION OVERVIEW
Skate Attendants provide positive experiences and promote healthy communities in Calgary by instructing groups of YMCA participants. Volunteers will be required to skate, so you should be comfortable on the ice. This position includes helping make drop in skate and skating programs a welcoming area by talking to customers as well as helping ensure everyone is safe and following the rules.
Age requirement: 14years +
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associate with participation in skating programs
- Build relationships with the sport participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Set up and take down equipment
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Communicate with Sport Supervisor and/or Duty Manager regarding any situations during your shift

SKILLS

- Customer service experience
- Can think quick on your feet and can problem solve to de-escalate situations
- A love for sport, personal and community development
- Ability to stand for 2 hours
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, be creative, and self-directed
- Attention to detail and customer oriented
- Engaging and outgoing personality
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively
- Experience engaging and working with diverse groups of people
QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Three references – one can be personal reference
- Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
- Available evenings and/or weekends if required
