POSITION OVERVIEW
YMCA Calgary is currently looking for volunteers to join our Climbing Team. As a volunteer, you will provide fun & safe climbing experiences for children and families alongside a certified Climbing Instructor. Previous experience in climbing is not required.
Age requirement: 16 years of age and older
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with participation in climbing programs
- Build relationships with the participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Support the YMCA Climbing Instructor in facilitating quality experiences during registered program and open climb experiences
- Assist the Climbing Instructor with keeping children engaged in off-wall activities.
- Support the check-in process required for climbing including online waivers, open climb appointments and sign-in/out systems.
- Communicate with Day Camps & Climbing Supervisor regarding any situations during your shift

SKILLS
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience building relationships with children, youth & families
- Customer service experience
- Ability to stand for 2 hours
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, be creative and self-directed
- Attention to detail and customer-oriented
- Engaging and outgoing personality
QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Three references – one can be personal reference
- Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
- Available evenings and/or weekends if required
