Volunteer Title: Esports Volunteer
Location: Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton and Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge
Reports To: Esports Supervisor
Note: This role has an age requirement of 16+ years.
Summary
The Esports Volunteer will work closely with our Esports Supervisor to facilitate both virtual and in-person Esports events. This position will be working in program ratio for our Esports programming, hosting online and in-person tournaments, and facilitating registered programs (starting in Spring 2024). We are looking for individuals who are passionate about Esports and growing the Esports community.
Time Commitment
This position requires an 8-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 3 hours in length and typically scheduled on evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
- Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift
Program Support
- Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Manage risks associated with participation in programs
- Build relationships with the Esport community and other YMCA staff and volunteers
- Provide support to the host and participants in, Discord and LeagueSpot, online and in-person, Esport tournaments
- Troubleshoot and assist onboarding for Discord server community and LeagueSpot check in’s for tournaments
- Facilitate delivery of pre-planned events
- Deal with minor behavior concerns of the participants of the program
Skills
1. Love for competition, personal development, and community development
2. Previous Esport tournament or video gaming experience in competing and/or hosting areas
3. Discord literacy and community moderation experience
4. Customer service with problem solving oriented attitude
5. Experience developing professional relationships with youth aged 8-17
6. Ability to follow direction, take initiative, be creative, and self-motivated
7. General understanding of how to operate Esport related hardware and software
- Access to a computer, internet connection and Nintendo Switch gaming console required
