Barrington Tops Post Fire Scotch Broom Working Bee 1st - 2nd May 2021
Help Barrington Tops National Park recover post-bushfire
Join small groups of volunteers working to stop the re-seeding of Scotch Broom in the World Heritage Barrington Tops – cutting unburnt mature broom plant and finding emerging seedlings. These two-day working bees feature free camping at the Little Murray campground – then carpooling in 4WDs to target sites to attack the Scotch broom infestations, with a focus on saving threatened species in the Tops.
These two-day working bees will occur in the last week of February and of March. If you can not make this session, here are the others:
Volunteers will need a medium level of fitness, camping equipment and be ready for the changeable weather in the Barrington Tops.
Where is it:
Participants will provide their own transport to Little Murray Campground and to Junction Pools to Edwards Swamp work area. The roads are unsealed, and open to the public. Roads to Little Murray and Junction Pools require 4WD vehicles. Carpooling from Little Murray Camping ground will be encouraged following current NSW Government COVID-19 Guidelines.

The campground has been booked for event participants only and is free. You are welcome to come up the night before or to stay the night after the activity to help manage fatigue and to give you more time to enjoy the Barrington Tops National Park. Facilities are basic. Please bring plenty of drinking water, food and supplies for your stay as well as your own camping equipment. Enviro cycle toilets only available. Campfires are allowed but bring your own firewood.
Bookings - Register your interest to be provided with all details of the program. The number of participants is capped at 30 people per activity.
Weather - It is important to be prepared for wet and cold weather, as the weather can change quite rapidly on Barrington Tops. Please ensure you have good wet and cold weather gear and bring it with you. As part of the risk assessment process we will discuss weather implications and how we will manage any changes. Your safety and comfort are important to us and if weather conditions deteriorate, we will cancel either the work session, the day or the activity. If you wish to cancel due to predicted weather conditions, we respect that and ask that you inform us. As Barrington Tops can become quite cold, please ensure you have adequate warm and weatherproof camping, clothing and bedding.
