HCCB: LHA - One-Off Lower Hunter Area Volunteering Opportunities - Squirrel Glider Habitat Planting

Celebrate World Environment Day a week early supporting this event funded by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service with support from Trees in Newcastle . The endangered Squirrel Glider requires mature eucalypt forest for nesting, with an understory of heath for feeding. Because of this, they are sensitive to cleared or degraded areas. Planting events will over time increase the connectivity between good habitats, provide food and shelter, and shade out the weeds that threaten them. As a valued volunteers supporting Squirrel Glider habitat planting you will learn about the history of Glenrock State Conservation Area and how planting trees and shrubs in degraded areas can assist species such as the threatened Squirrel Glider, by providing habitat for nesting and feeding. This is also a great opportunity to get your children involved in caring for the environment.
Volunteers will plant habitat and feed trees suitable for Squirrel Gliders to thrive in Glenrock SCA. Experience planting native habitat is desirable but not essential. All training and tools will be provided on the day.
