About Us

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SafeHouse Center.

SafeHouse Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Our mission is to empower survivors of both sexual and intimate partner violence by providing advocacy, support, and promoting social change within our community.

All volunteer opportunities require in person participation. While most volunteer roles are based at SafeHouse Center, some positions, such as Response Team volunteers, may serve at designated community partner locations. Remote or hybrid volunteer opportunities are not available.

Volunteers play a vital role in advancing our mission. We seek individuals who are committed to creating a community free from violence and who share our dedication to survivor empowerment, equity, dignity, and social change.

Please note that acceptance into the volunteer program is contingent upon several factors, including the application and interview process, successful completion of required training, and adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in volunteer position descriptions, training materials, and the Volunteer Handbook. Placement and continued volunteer service are at the discretion of SafeHouse Center.

Before applying, we encourage you to review SafeHouse Center's Core Values. We ask all volunteers to embrace these values and support our commitment to addressing the root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence, challenging systems of oppression, and fostering a more equitable and just community.

Core Values

Confidential

All services fully follow our confidentiality policy, and the agency does whatever possible to protect a survivor’s privacy.

Empowerment

We believe in being survivor centered and in the autonomy of survivors to make their own decisions.  Our services are non-directive, non-judgmental, and free of charge.

Collaboration

We will build effective community partnerships to advocate for change needed to end abuse of all survivors.

Commitment

We are committed to operating with integrity and high ethical standards in all that we do. We will promote safety and justice for survivors and their children.

Equity

We intend to meet all survivors where they are and to provide fair, accessible, and inclusive services centered in dignity and respect.

Impact

We provide education and awareness about both sexual and intimate partner violence in our community to change the systems and beliefs that perpetuate abuse.
