Volunteer Opportunities
ReStore Administrative Help
We are sometimes in need of help in our office to do filing, data entry, and other basic office tasks. These tasks generally do not require heavy lifting or standing for long periods of time.
ReStore Housewares Department
Next to the Furniture Department, Housewares is the largest and busiest department of the ReStore. In our warehouse area, we have a whole section devoted solely to sorting, cleaning, and pricing everything from lamps to artwork, dishes, bakeware, and assorted bric-a-brac. We need at least three volunteers every day (Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 am - 2:30 pm) to keep up with the volume of donations we receive. This opportunity does not normally involve heavy lifting, but you will be on your feet for most of the shift.
Do you enjoy yard sales, flea markets, or antique shops? If so, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you!
ReStore Donation Receiving and Sales Floor
Twenty to eighty people drive up to the ReStore Donor Door each day to drop off goods of all types. Donations may include tools, construction materials, furniture, and housewares. Everything that comes in must be sorted, cleaned, priced, and moved to the sales floor. This is a physical job that involves both lifting heavy items and interacting with the public.
Whether you are helping a donor unload their car or helping a customer load a piece of furniture unto their truck, you will be active. There will always be something to keep you busy, and the ReStore would grind to a halt without volunteers like you.
Critical Home Repairs and Construction Projects
The main reason Habitat for Humanity has a ReStore is to earn money to fund our Critical Home Repair Program. Our clients are often elderly or disabled and earn sixty percent or less of the Area Median Income. They have nowhere else to turn to maintain their homes.
We are called upon to fix plumbing issues, roof leaks, unsafe decks, and just about everything else you can think of that could go wrong in a home. You may be using power tools one minute and painting the next. This is a physical role, but we can accommodate various degrees of experience and ability, if you are willing to jump in and lend a hand.
If you enjoy DIY projects in your own home and would like to share the skills you have picked up over time - or if you want to pick up a few new skills yourself, this could be the opportunity for you.
